Most patients are aware of the on-label indications for this miracle medication, but did you know that there are additional ways to get more out of your neurotoxin? Wrinkles aren't the only thing that BOTOX can fix! Whether it's to mediate headaches or stop excessive sweating - this treatment is for everybody.

Let’s talk about the many uses of BOTOX, shall we?

1) Blepharospasm.

BOTOX has been an effective treatment for blepharospasm since FDA approval in 1989. Blepharospasm is characterized by involuntary spasms of the muscles around the eye, resulting in uncontrolled blinking, narrowing, and even closing of the eyelid. When injected around the eye, spasms begin to disappear 2 weeks after the injection.

2) Hyperhidrosis.

Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating. It refers to any abnormal sweating, such as sweating when it’s not hot. With BOTOX, it’s easy to make hyperhidrosis a thing of the past. This is a popular treatment for those with a medical condition or those who don’t like working up a visible underarm sweat. It may also be used “off-label” to reduce sweating in other areas, such as the hands and face.

3) Spasmodic Dysphonia (SD).

Spasmodic Dysphonia (SD) is a neurological voice disorder caused by uncontrolled muscle spasms of the larynx (voice box). Vowel sounds are especially difficult for SD patients. BOTOX injections to the larynx can be a very effective treatment. Injections can help restore the voices and the confidence of people with a voice disorder caused by spasms in their vocal cord muscles.

4) TMJ.

TMJ disorders can cause  pain in your jaw joint and the muscles that control jaw movement. If you’re experiencing anything like this, come in right away so we can help take your pain away! When BOTOX is injected into facial muscles afflicted with soreness and discomfort, it will relieve jaw tension and reduce pain for many patients.

5) Migraines.

Treating migraines was discovered as a result of cosmetic BOTOX. Doctors were performing BOTOX around the eyes, and patient’s reported that their migraines went away. BOTOX can be injected around the head and in the back to help alleviate the pain caused by migraines.

As you can see, there are lots of ways to use this powerful molecule. An injection that's best known for smoothing wrinkles now has a new meaning. The next time you hear someone speaking about BOTOX, keep in mind that there is more than one use for it!
