One of the most successful ways to combat the effects of an aging brow line is with brow lift surgery, also known as a forehead lift. A brow lift corrects sagging eyebrows and wrinkles in the forehead area. It can also drastically improve the area around the eyes, leading to a more alert, rested, and youthful appearance.
BOOK NOWREQUEST APPOINTMENTA brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure that lifts the skin of the forehead toward the hairline, smoothing out wrinkles and lines and repositioning the eyebrows along the brow ridge. This procedure can be performed in several ways with various techniques depending on the patient’s unique facial structure and is commonly combined with a facelift, neck lift, or blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery).
The surgery is performed in our on-site surgical suite with anesthesia by Dr. Rice, a board-certified facial plastic surgeon with thousands of hours of experience and an impeccable record of satisfied patients.
Recovery time is 1-2 weeks, and results are instantaneous, although it sometimes takes up to 7 months for swelling to disappear completely. While we consider surgery the most permanent transformation you can get, nothing can stop the hands of time, and your skin will continue to age as it normally would. However, this procedure can take years off a patient’s appearance and last for up to ten years if you are diligent in caring for your skin.
Brow lift surgery is most appropriate for patients with deep wrinkles in the forehead due to age, a low-set brow, or an especially tall forehead. You may also be a brow lift candidate if you have noticed sagging or flattening of your once pleasantly arched brows. If you feel like the person looking back at you in the mirror looks permanently upset, angry, or in need of a long, sleep-filled vacation, you’ll love the dramatic results achieved with a brow lift. If you feel you fit into any of the categories listed above, this might be the perfect procedure for you.
The most common brow lift surgery we do at Esthetics Center involves a series of small incisions just behind the hairline. Then an endoscope is inserted just under the skin to release the brow from its current position, allowing Dr. Rice to reposition the brow. Studies show that the brow needs to be held in the new position for only 2-3 weeks to allow the body to take up the position permanently.
Following a brow lift, patients may experience temporary numbness and discomfort at the incision site. You should expect to swell and bruise around the eyes after this procedure. To reduce swelling, we ask that you keep your head elevated for the first 2-3 days following surgery. You may also apply cooling packs to speed recovery and take pain medication to alleviate other side effects. Dissolvable sutures are routinely used, and any non-dissolvable sutures will be removed within a week.
Typically, patients set aside 1-2 weeks for recovery following brow lift surgery. We strongly recommend avoiding heavy work or vigorous exercise for the first 3-4 weeks; this should include running or jogging, working out, heavy housework, sexual activity, or any other activity that significantly raises your blood pressure. With that said, we encourage you to take daily walks to maintain circulation and clear your lungs and mind. You should be able to return to work within two weeks. We also recommend avoiding excessive heat and prolonged sun exposure for the first 3-4 months.
We pride ourselves on prepping our patients on what to expect and how best to recover from surgery with minimal discomfort. Rest assured that we will advise you every step along the road to recovery so you can get back to normal day-to-day activities as quickly as possible.
Brow lift results should last years, possibly even a decade, but it won’t stop time completely. You can minimize sagging skin and other signs of aging by using high-quality, medical-grade skincare and sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Cosmetic procedures such as microneedling with radiofrequency energy can also boost collagen production and preserve your skin’s health.
Once your brow lift has healed and all swelling has subsided, your results will be noticeable. By continuing to take care of your skin and overall health, you will be able to enjoy your more youthful, rested, and joyful appearance for years to come!
