Dimpleplasty is a quick and simple procedure. It is performed under local anesthesia or IV sedation. Once the patient is sedated, a small incision is made on the inside of the mouth, and a small amount of tissue is removed. Then, a deep, dissolvable suture is placed to “tack” down the muscle and skin—this creates a dimple. Finally, the incision is closed with a row of dissolvable sutures that take about one to two weeks to dissolve fully. You’ll be out of the operating room within an hour.
Dimpleplasty gets big results with minimal downtime. Because all of the surgical incisions are made inside the mouth, there are no visible incisions or scars; this makes a big difference in recovery time. Patients look presentable within days rather than the weeks most people associate with cosmetic surgery. A dimpleplasty patient can resume their daily life within days of the procedure. The most a patient can experience after dimpleplasty is light swelling and bruising. For most patients, these post-treatment conditions only last a few days, but there is a possibility that they persist for a few weeks.
Dimpleplasty results are permanent. However, there is no way to know beforehand how subtle or dramatic the results will end up being. This is because the depth of the dimple largely depends on each patient’s individual healing. How subtle or dramatic the dimple ends up depends on how deep the dimple “scars” down. Suppose the dimple does not heal as “deep” and create a dramatic enough result for the patient’s preference. In that case, they can choose to undergo a revision.
Because dimpleplasty is such a quick procedure, it can be performed alongside any other surgical procedure. Complimentary procedures are submental liposuction to refine the jaw and chin and possibly, buccal fat pad removal to thin the cheeks and enhance the cheekbones. But if all you want are dimples, you can always have a dimpleplasty on its own!
